Executive Summary

In July 2026, this dealership’s website received exactly one visit from paid search. By September, paid search was sending 1,771 visits a month, and the phones were ringing for sales, service and the body shop.

The client is an independent luxury and exotic pre-owned dealership in South Florida, with sales, service and collision departments under one roof. The dealership needed qualified leads across five revenue lines at once: vehicle sales, service, collision repair, trade-ins and financing.

Forward Digital Media built a connected program across Google Search, Performance Max, Vehicle Listing Ads, Meta and technical SEO, measured in Google Analytics 4 with Enhanced Conversions. Campaigns launched on August 1, 2026 and are optimized daily.

The short version

In the first 60 days the program produced 583 total leads (calls, forms and other lead actions tracked in Google Ads) at $10.87 per lead, and ads generated 180 phone calls. Website traffic rose 40% over the pre-launch average, and cost per lead fell 34% from August to September while leads more than doubled.

The Challenge

Independent luxury dealers compete for the same searches as franchise stores and national marketplaces. Before August 2026, the dealership had essentially no paid search presence: Google Analytics recorded one to three paid-search visits a month from May through July.

  • Five departments, one budget. Sales, service, collision, trade-ins and financing each have different buyers and different values per lead.
  • Measurement that couldn't guide spend. In July, GA4 recorded almost 1.5 key events per session, a sign that low-value or duplicate events were being counted as conversions.
  • Inventory not visible in Google Shopping. Vehicles weren't appearing in Vehicle Listing Ads, where shoppers compare cars by photo and price.

Strategy

Each campaign was given one job, and every campaign reports into the same conversion tracking.

Bid strategy

Maximize Conversions with a maximum CPC cap on Search, and a separate CPC cap and a 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM schedule on Performance Max, so Google pursues conversions without overpaying for any single click.

Service keywords

  • Oil changes
  • Tire rotation
  • Brake repair
  • Wheel alignment
  • Tune-ups
  • Diagnostics

Body shop keywords

  • Collision repair
  • Dent repair
  • Paint repair
  • Insurance claims
  • Bumper repair
  • Auto body repair

Measurement

Paid campaigns didn't launch until tracking was validated. After the GA4 and Tag Manager audit, key events per session dropped from almost 1.5 in July to under 0.6 in September, so the conversions Google's bidding learns from now reflect real lead actions.

Analytics & tracking

  • Google Analytics 4 review
  • Google Tag Manager audit
  • Enhanced Conversions
  • Call tracking
  • Form tracking
  • Merchant Center feed review

Technical SEO

  • Website technical audit
  • Meta title & description optimization
  • H1 structure cleanup
  • Car dealer schema markup
  • Vehicle make & model schema
  • Google Business Profile optimization

  • Non-branded acquisition is working. Excluding the Branded campaign, conversions cost $15.59 each.
  • Service and collision are filling. The three fixed-operations campaigns produced 105 conversions at $14.61 each.
  • Website traffic is up 40%. September sessions (8,971) were 40% above the May–July pre-launch average (6,415), including 1,771 paid-search visits, up from one in July.
  • AI assistants are sending visitors. Visits from AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini grew from 24 in July to 108 in September as schema and page-structure work rolled out.
  • Next opportunity. The standard Shopping campaign drove 441 clicks but no tracked conversions, while the Performance Max version of Vehicle Listing Ads converted. Shifting that budget is the next optimization.

What This Means for Your Dealership

Five questions to ask your agency this week

  1. Who actually works in my account, and how often? If the answer is "a team" and "weekly," your budget drifts between check-ins.
  2. What counts as a conversion, and does it match my CRM? If your agency's lead count is far above what your BDC sees, bidding is learning from noise.
  3. What's my cost per lead by department? Sales, service, collision and finance should each have their own number.
  4. Is my brand traffic separated from Performance Max? If not, PMax may be taking credit for customers who were already looking for you.
  5. Do I own my Google Ads account? You should. Always.

Lessons for Other Dealers

  • Give each department its own campaign. A brake job and a $60,000 vehicle shouldn't share a budget or a bid.
  • Fix tracking before launch. Smart bidding is only as good as the conversions it learns from.
  • Start with branded search. At $2.01 per conversion it was the cheapest lead source and gave Google clean data in month one.
  • Optimize daily. Daily search-term and bid work is why cost per conversion dropped 34% in the second month.

Data source: Google Ads and Google Analytics 4, August 1 to October 8, 2026. Conversions are the lead actions configured in each Google Ads account (calls, forms and other lead events). Cost per conversion includes all campaign spend.
